The Noosa Federation of the Arts took custody of a Signature series, fine replica of the 1673 Stainer Stradivari cello including a Pernambuco silver mounted cello bow for their highly successful Musical Instruments Bank.
The cello was purchased with a grant from the Queensland Government Gambling Community Benefit fund and is valued at $6645.
The lucky Sunshine Coast cello recipient is Miriam Piechocinski who embarked on her musical career at two years old on the recorder. At four years of age her father Adam started to teach her piano. However it was the cello that stole Miriam’s young heart, so as a result Miriam began cello lessons with Ann Boyer in Caloundra which she enjoyed through out her primary school years as a member of the Sunshine Coast Grammar School Orchestra- playing not only the cello but also the violin.
Miriam then went on to study the double bass. Lessons were then organised with Nick Davy followed by other music teachers from the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane. Miriam auditioned to study as a double student and was accepted. She lasted a week as a double bass student and then switched to engineering!Recently however she picked up the cello again and renewed her musical passion. Miriam then found herself in desperate need of a cello. Hence the Noosa Federation of the Arts loan of the marvellous Stainer Stradavari.
